Shasta Trinity Fly Fishers

Fly Fishing 101 gives a solid grounding in the basics of fly fishing. This is an all day class - 8am to 5pm and taught four times a year.

The class is available to members 13 and older and is free to members.

Included is a manual of everything discussed during the class. 

The class starts with an introduction to fly fishing, gear, knots, casting, entomology, and how to find and catch trout. You will be provided with all of the gear that you will need to tie flies, tie knots, and cast (gear remains at the club).


The Fly Casting classes are offered to STFF members without charge. Classes are taught by Jim Wigington an FFi Master Fly Casting Instructor.


Beginning Fly Tying is taught throughout the year on six consecutive Tuesdays from 6pm to 8:30pm at the clubhouse.

This class is for those who haven't tied flies before or need to refresh their skills.

It is free to club members and the club provides fly tying tools to borrow during the classes. The manual for the class costs $8 and the club has complete fly tying tool kits available for sale for $45.


The Intermediate Fly Tying class is held at the clubhouse off of Shasta View Drive at the Clover Creek Preserve.  Doors open at 5:30pm, class starts at 6pm. Classes are on the first Wednesday of each month. The class will be limited to 12 students. You will need to bring your vice, tools, and thread.  Email 2 week prior to the class to get your name on the roster. You will receive a confirming email a week prior to the class with information that you will for the class. Cost of the class is $5 cash.

Graphite, Fiberglass, or Bamboo

Rod Building Classes:

Classes taught based on interest of members.

Classes start at 9am and last until 1:30pm over four Saturdays.

Rod kit cost will be based on type and size of rod and will include rod blank and all basic materials to build the rod.

STFF members can build their own beautiful wood frame  landing nets from scratch.

The cost is approximately $30 - $40, depending on the size  and type of net you chose to build .

The process takes 3 half-day sessions at a private wood shop to make the laminated wood frame. Prior woodworking experience is not necessary.  Class sizes are small - three to four people.  Contact Tom Taylor to register:
